Kisongo was born and raised in a Christian family in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). After graduating from seminary there, he served for 10 years as a chaplain pastor for university students and spent 4 years working on peacemaking efforts related to the Rwandan genocide of 1994. In 2010, he founded the organization ALERT, (African Leadership Empowerment, Reconciliation and Transformation). ALERT’S vision is “to see local churches of Eastern Congo ignite spiritual and economic transformation across Congo and beyond.” He has a passion to see the Congolese church grasp the revolutionary power of the Gospel as their 'wisdom template' for all aspects of life.
Kisongo is married to Jeanne, who was also raised in the DR Congo. She is the daughter of a pastor, and is a wonderful helper to her husband in different church ministries. They have eight adult children: Mawazo, Ibuchwa, Kilo, Neema, Malanda, Furaha, Bora and Catherine.
